SOUTH AMERICAN BIRDSONG PROJECT posted: 06. 28. 14 I was commissioned to provide illustrations for A Guide to the Birdsong of South America, which aims to help conserve some of South America's rarest bird species. Producer Robin Perkins, through his Rhythm and Roots label, has assembled some of the brightest musical talents coming out of South America to compose tracks based on the calls of endangered birds. Album sales will benefit Aves y Conservación.
NEW BOOK OUT updated: 07. 12. 14 My new book, "A is for Avocet," is now avaiable from retailers such as Amazon and Barnes and Noble. The book is an abecedarian aviary, featuring friendly illustrations of interesting birds for each letter of the alphabet. THE ART OF THE VIOLIN SHOPPE updated: 05. 24. 14 The Violin Shoppe, located at 2112 E. 7th St. in the Elizabeth neighborhood of Charlotte, has opened an art gallery within the Shoppe, featuring works by such artists
as Duy Huynh, Raed Al-Rawi, and more. I was invited to participate in the inaugural show. The art is still on view and open to the public. Amelia, the gallery director, will be happy to assist visitors, answer questions, and offer fresh pop corn if need be.
BLUE HORSE MARKET posted: 05. 07. 14 I recently packed up a selection of prints to sell at Blue Horse Market in Whispering Pines. Blue Horse Market is a modern country store and local hang out offering coffee, sandwiches, salads, soups, home made breads, craft beer and wine, and unique gifts and items for the home.
PHOENIX RISES FROM MY PORCH updated: 03. 20. 14 I recently installed the large piece below at the Neighborhood Theatre. The piece, which Julio insists is called "Burt," but has also been classed as a "Butterfly Phoenix" was created at the Elizabeth Block Party with Julio The Mexican and James Jeffries.
We set the eight foot painting on fire as part of the performance.

ACHILLE PROJECT posted: 02. 28. 14 I created some art for the Achille Project, which aims to help black cats find a home through the sales of cool cat art.
BUTTERFLYFISHES ARE NUMEROUS AND DIVERSE posted: 02. 28. 14 I recently finished a personal project illustrating the genus Chaetodon. This is a large group of Butterflyfishes which may eventually be split into several seperate genera.
To my knowledge they haven't all been depicted in one illustration before.

HELP DISAPPEARING FROGS updated: 01. 30. 14 Artist Terry Thirion is heading an ambitious effort on behalf of the world's threatened frog species. The Disappearing Frogs Project will be a traveling
multimedia art installation highlighting the perils these amphibians face in today's changing environments. Artists are invited to contribute their depictions of frogs (mine is pictured below) - visit the website or facebook page to find out

BOXMAN MURAL PROJECT posted: 01. 17. 14 I recently wrapped up a collaborative mural project with John Hairston and Matt Hooker for Boxman Studios, a company that repurposes decommissioned shipping containers.
Our mural, extending accross a sixty foot wall, is a loose narrative relating the journey of retired shipping containers as they are given new life and transformed by Boxman into novel and unexpected structures.
CAROLINA RAPTOR CENTER posted: 12. 26. 13 I'm getting ready to mail my first package of artworks to sell at the Carolina Raptor Center in
Huntersville, NC. I enjoyed doing a few new designs for their gift shop, including the long-eared owl below, and will add more periodically.
FOUR DOGS posted: 12. 21. 13 There's a new pet supply store in NoDa called Four Dogs and they are
offering a selection of animal art by local and regional artists such as Susan Plante, Rosalia, and myself. They're right near Will Puckett's Matheson bridge mural about a block from
Amelie's. If you have pets, or enjoy animal art, check them out the next time you're in the hood.
